Math Placement Exams

Course descriptions for MATH can be found here.

Do I need to take a math placement exam?

Students with a satisfactory TSI math readiness score may enroll directly into MATH 1310, 1311, 1312, 1313, or 2311 without taking a placement test.

Students who wish to enroll in MATH 1314, MATH 1330, or MATH 1431, but do not have college-level math credit (transfer, AP, or otherwise) in the appropriate prerequisite subject area, are required to take a placement test. Most incoming freshman students fall into this category.

Placement Into MATH 1314 and 1330 (Business Calculus and Pre-Calculus)

A grade of 65 on this online exam will allow you to take MATH 1314 or 1330. Students can attempt this exam twice. Their highest score will determine their grade on the exam.

Placement Into MATH 1431 (Calculus I)

A grade of 80 on this online exam will allow you to take MATH 1431. Students can attempt this online exam only once. Students who do not attain a satisfactory score will have a second opportunity to take the test during orientation.

Students can take one or both of the placement exams, and the exams can be taken in any order.
Any student who fails to attain a satisfactory score on a placement exam may still enroll in MATH 1310, 1311, 1312, 1313, or 2311. These students should consult an academic advisor to determine the appropriate course.
